Hi everyone.

Today, a short walk at Riverwood Park from 10:30-11:00am.  Saw the following:

Lots of Mourning Doves all over the place.

2 Robins by the tree with owl carvings in it, close to the art centre.

Numerous very friendly/tame Black-capped Chickadees sitting on my fingers and looking to see if I had any food for them in my hand.  :)

1 very friendly/tame White-breasted Nuthatch at the MacEwan House feeder - also checked to see if I had any food.

Weather-wise, saw snow falling and accumulating up here in Meadowvale around 7:30am this morning!    It melted quickly.

Jo-Anne  :)

Riverwood Park:  North side of Burnhamthorpe Rd., just West of Creditview Rd.

That must have been my fault I was there feeding them on Sunday. They were swarming my hand. The White Breasted Nuthatch would not come to my hand but the red breasted nuthatch was all over me. I also saw a Hairy WoodPecker pretty close up. One chickadee thought my flabby palm was a sunflower seed and when you could not fly away with my skin after trying he gave me a good talking to so I would know about his displeasure. He was a little nipper.

Grant ...  Too funny!   Thanks for the "flabby palm" image ... NOT!

Birds at Riverwood certainly have lots of food available - especially at the numerous feeders and people hand feeding them.

Re: Hairy Woodpecker ... Nice!  Earlier this year, saw a Hairy and a Downy Woodpecker next to each other on a tree by the feeder - could really see the difference in size between these 2 birds.

Re: nipper ... sort of like the tapper/tugger hungry squirrel at Lake Aquitaine last week - no nipping involved though.  :D

Don't remember seeing nuthatches in the backgarden previously but yesterday one turned up at same time as a chickadee and today I had a pair on the leafless sunburst locust. (I'm in Brampton.)
I'm hoping to keep my A. goldfinches all winter like last winter. A house finch has joined them at the niger feeder and the juncos are on the ground as usual. Squirrels are v. playful all over the back lawn!

Hi Margaret, long time no see/talk!   Nice sightings.

Have you gone to see "Mr. P" (Phainopepla) yet?
