My husband, daughter and I made our first trip to Amherst Island today and hit Presquile Park for a very short visit on the drive home.   On the walk to the Owl Woods at the feeders we saw blue jays, house finches (I think), red bellied woodpecker, chickadees, downy woodpeckers, w-b nuthatches.  I was very excited about our first sighting of the red bellied woodpecker.  We met someone on the trail who saw many owls in the woods, but we did not.  We scoured the woods looking for the saw-whet :(, but did not find one.  There were 3-4 owls flying about and only my daughter saw a short-eared perched.  We were thrilled to see a Snowy Owl on the KFN property sitting high in an osprey stand (too far away for pics, but got a good look through our scope).  We will go back to check the Owl Woods later in the winter.

Presquile was very productive.  We were only there 45 mins. (as the light was disappearing) and spotted a ruffed grouse in a tree (also a first) and 2 barred owls out in the open (the first with many photographers around) and the second, all by itself on a tall tree stump.  I think a return visit is called for!

Denis,
Yes, that was us!  I wish we had introduced ourselves and I wish we had seen what you saw!  I really want to see a saw-whet (hear the whining!)  Glad you had such good luck.
Moira.
