i was at amherst today also.so were about 20 other people.i saw,and photographed,one saw-whet,long eared,and snowy owl.
there were many long-eared owls flying about, continuously flushing, maybe due to the high traffic,in the area.one couple, were dragging, what appeared to be an aluminum toboggan, with enough camera gear for a safari,on it.you can imagine the sound of that sled,on the icy trail! i heard them coming 1/2, mile away!anyhow i got away from the crowd, and sat quietly for about 30 min,and was rewarded with 2 long-eared owls, landing about 100 ft,from me,with one providing a photo oppertunity.these same people flushed 2 owls i was ready to photograph, earlier,by just walking right in front of me,after i had motioned them to be cautious by pointing up in the trees!it may be selfish of me,but when they asked me where the saw-whet was,i pointed them in the opposite direction!
2 snowies were observed,at the kfn property, and i also saw one,up in a hydro pole, halfway between KFN,and owl woods road,on the south rd.
also observed,2 pheasants,many hawks,including,4 harriers,1 rough-legged,and many RTH.
