Keswick - snowy owl, deer, kestrel, sunset, and horrorstory

i spent the day in Keswick.
and when i say "day", i meant "partially underneath my car trying to fasten a farmer's chain to my car's chassis to tow it out of a snow rut before the sun set".
here are my photos.

while waiting for the (jerk) towtruck driver, this guy came to visit:





before seeing the owl, i saw a kestrel hovering over a field.





i did get to witness a beautiful sunset after almost getting an ulcer at the prospect of leaving my car on a sideroad. and thanks to Ian Smith for his help  to get me out of my (literal) rut.

Wow! What a day you had. The strangest (and best) things often happen as a result of a low point in one's day. I fondly recall seeing an adult male Summer Tanager at Pt. Pelee after many annual visits to the park. It was pouring rain the entire weekend we were there but the sight of this beautiful creature not 10 feet from my car made me feel as if the skies had cleared and the sun was shining. I can't wait to break down if I'm going to experience what you did. Good show!

Hey good shots of the snowy.  You didn't try and take one of them crazy tractor laneways up there did you? Glad you got to see the Kestrel and get some pics of him as well.

let's just say that it was a series of bad judgment calls made while a) on a sugar low from skipping lunch, b) on a caffeine high from a latte, c) the prairie boy in me thinking that i could use the laneway to turn around properly to avoid getting stuck (and that worked out well, didn't it?)

again, i have a debt of gratitude to Ian for being incredibly nice and understanding. and that debt will be picked up at the LCBO tonight and likely hand-delivered tomorrow afternoon.

didn't realize how easy it would be to spot the snowy. during the tow truck wait (40 min) i could see it hunting along the horizon.

Maybe that's my problem.
I've been up to Keswick now quite a few times and never spotted a Snowie.
Maybe I should try it your way.  :lol:  :lol:

hey yogi!
i too took those tractor lanes,and almost got stuck a few times back there also.that wood pile is where i saw 2 deer,2 snowies hunting.unfortunately,this area is where most of the activity seems to be happening.i was able to drive all the way around those tractor lanes,and back onto the main road,but i wouldn,t do it again.great shots,by the way.
