I don't know much about these particular buildings, but they don't seem to comply with the City of Toronto's Bird-friendly Development Guidelines.
Does anybody know what EPA (referred to in article) is?  The initials could stand for Environmental Protection Act, but I didn't know we in Canada had one of those.  We do have a federal Migratory Birds Convention Act, but it seems to be more about what you can't hunt than how you must build sensibly.

I worked at 200 Consilium for years, long before I became a birder, and one of my co-workers and I used to go around the building during our breaks and pick up injured birds.  If they survived she'd take them home at lunch time and release them.  Some were only stunned but others died.

As I live just north of these buildings, I can tell you that they were created back in the 80's.  They meet all environmental standards set out for buildings that were created at that time.  Same goes for the Royal Bank tower down here where I work.
