The Western Grebe reported since yesterday in Port Credit was still present today between 5 & 6 pm.
It was 500 - 600 metres offshore, last seen at the west side of Saddington Park swimming slowly west. (Saddington Park is at the mouth of the Credit River, on the west side.) Hopefully it will stick around and come closer to shore. It was at the edge of visibility with my scope, sometimes dissolving into a blur of heat distortion. Be cautious with your ID if you get a poor view: there was a Horned Grebe in winter plumage and also a Red-necked Grebe there as well. The Western Grebe was all alone for most of the time I was watching, but it dwarfed Long-tailed Ducks when they came near.
Also present were about a dozen White-winged Scoters. They weren't out nearly as far as the grebe, but definitely best viewed with a scope.
