Owl Leftovers

Found this pine tree patch in Ajax during the winter with this at the bootom of one of the trees.  I swear i had found my first Saw Whet but alas after multiple times visiting this site i never ever seen the owl.  Could this be any owl?  The pines were fairly dense.  Anyways heres the pics

funny that you ask this.
i thought i found a tree or two that a saw-whet may be using, but it had white poop on the branches. wasn't sure if saw-whets pooped while poo as well.

Those are owl pellets, and judging from the size relative to the white pine needles, they may well be from a Saw Whet.

Pellets are regurgitated lumps of bones, fur & feathers.  Owls also have white poop, commonly referred to as "whitewash" which is also helpful in identifying roosting places.
