Sandhill Cranes

Sandhill Cranes have been #1 on my to see list for some time. On a recent trip to Florida, I was thrilled to witness a family going about their day. They spent some time in a field beside a water retention pond, digging for food and leaving fairly deep holes. At about 7:30 p.m. they returned to a nest on the pond and settled in for the evening. The colts climbed up and under mama's wings and peeped their heads out for a look-see.

"To be a better nature photographer, be a better naturalist. The more you know about nature, the more you will see to photograph. Develop a deeper compassion for the world around us, and live by an ethic of concern for the subject matter."
