Had another fabulous outing at Carden Alvar near Orillia, this place never disappoints. Had two very special moments, the first was being able to see a Brown Thrasher in the open and singing, previous two sightings were in thick bushes which meant no pictures:( And the second I will never forget, Just after leaving Carden I spotted a RT Hawk on a fence post right on the side of Hwy 12. My wife turned the car around and we sat back trying to figure out how to approach it without it taking off, as they usually do:) We had no other choice than to slowly approach, with me ready to shoot out the window with the car moving, now comes the crazy part, we pulled within 20 feet and the young one didn't take off. After reeling off a bunch of shots, I felt the bird didn't see me as a threat and then proceeded slowly out of the car and the bird again didn't fly away. I was able to get within 15 feet standing upright and still the bird stayed still, what an amazing subject this guy was, a once in a lifetime moment.
