I was just wondering if anyone knew of birds that make a home on the island or that we could expect to see or look for, when we're there, June 9-11th.
I realize we are missing the migrants, but am still hoping to see some new and interesting birds. Thanks!

We were just on the island this past weekend. The weather was awful so the birding wasn't all that good. Our best find was some great, close-up views of a pair of Woodcocks.

I'm not all that familiar with the island, so I can't say a whole lot about what birds you can find there. If you're an OFO member the most recent issue of OFO News has a short article about birding Pelee Island that we found useful. If you're not a member feel free to PM me and maybe I can get the article to you.

At the Visitor Centre there is a book in which people record what they've seen.  The book will help you to decide which path to walk.  This is also where you get the ride to the Point.  If they still have the guided tours, I would recommend it.  It's $15/pp and we felt well worth it.  They scout out areas and take the group where the action is :)  I don't know what you can expect to see in June.  Do you check the ONTBIRDS reports - they have a daily report from Pelee - keep an eye on it closer to the time you're going.

Not really expecting to see anything specific, just curious as to what I "may" see at that time of year. It's our first time to the area, and we didn't want to go when it would be crazy busy, though we do plan on going in May another year.  We decided to go for my birthday this year and are staying on the Island for 2 nights at a B & B.

I've been chatting with someone at the Bird Banding place on the island and she's been most helpful and I'm quite certain we'll see some birds we haven't before. I'm so looking forward to this trip, I can't wait!  :D

Yellow-breasted chat is a breeding bird there that can be hard to find in Ontario.  Look in the scrubby hedgerows in SE part of island.  Lots of screech owls there too.  I have seen red-headed woodpecker there but not sure if migrant or resident.  Good place for finding giant swallowtail butterfly (also in SE especially) and many species of trees that are rare in Ontario - I seem to recall some sort of marked driving/biking map of interesting trees.  Definitely check in at the museum if you want to know where to go to find something specific.

The -->checklist<-- for Pelee Island lists birds that breed on the island with a "B".

Thank you so much! I feel kinda silly asking now, I've been on that site quite a bit, and didn't see that list.    :?
