Beavers in Smythe Park

I was in Smythe Park early evening yesterday and ran into John (Zed).  He showed me some Beaver homes.  We must have talked about the Beaver long enough that moments later he made an appearance in the pond further up.  Then, on my way out, at the first pond, I saw something cross the drive in my rear view mirror...  it was a Beaver.  I think this is a second Beaver as it's a bit of a distance between the two spots.  I stopped the car, hopped out and got one pic in before he disappeared into the bush...

Beavers in Toronto?!?!  Wow!  Who knew?

Rob ... cool write up and photos.   8)

I used to live right by Smythe Park back in the 80's.  It was great living so close to James Gardens as well.

Well done Rob!
Although I have only seen one beaver I've been told that there are four.

Hi....glad to hear you saw a few beavers, they are cool animals...unfortunately, I live at  Steeles and Markham (Scarborough) and, two beavers have been killed by traffic in just the past few weeks, literally seconds from where I live. There is a small creek nearby that runs through Rouge Park and our area.  I have not seen the beavers or their dam in the creek but have seen their dead bodies. Beavers have also been spotted in Morningside Park and Colonel Danforth Park.

The best time to see them is around dusk. A woman down the street was out walking her dog one evening and saw four beavers crossing the park road.

I believe there are three lodges, two in one pond and one in another.

Four?  Wild!  In such a small area.  I am glad we haven't seen any of them run down.

Yes Jo-Anne, you should come down to Smythe sometime.  We could meet you there.
