As I am frequently getting questions regarding how to include photos in posts, here is a very simple approach that should be achievable with minimal computer skills. Let me know if you have comments, corrections, or suggestions for improvements of this post. Thanks.

I'm assuming that the image that you want post is stored on your computer. If your image is hosted online you can follow instructions given here:

<!-- m -->http://outdoorontario.net/ ... php?t=4249<!-- m -->
<!-- m -->http://outdoorontario.net/ ... .php?t=165<!-- m -->
<!-- m -->http://outdoorontario.net/ ... php?t=2996<!-- m -->

With our site you first need to upload the image to an image hosting web site. There are many free such services available, e.g. <!-- w -->www.flickr.com<!-- w --> , <!-- w -->www.picasa.com<!-- w --> and <!-- w -->www.outdoorontario.net/Gallery<!-- w --> . Such sites generally require you to register with their services. If you want to avoid this step the site <!-- w -->www.imageshack.com<!-- w --> allows you to host images without registration. In the following example I will use <!-- w -->www.imageshack.com<!-- w -->.

1) Direct your browser to <!-- w -->www.imageshack.com<!-- w -->

2) At <!-- w -->www.imageshack.com<!-- w --> click "Browse..." to choose the image that you want to upload from your hard drive. Then click "UPLOAD NOW".

3) On the left-hand side of the page you will now see a field next to the text "Forum Code". Copy all the text in this field (it starts with "
-----

10) Click "Preview" at the bottom of the page to preview your post. Verify that the image appears.

11) If everything looks OK, press "Submit" to submit your post.

Hi

Used your instructions successfully! I tried to post more than one image without success. (using image shack) so I tried posting the other image in a reply to my original but still only got the code. Which I guess if someone wanted they could just click on it and see it?

Any directions?

Simply repeat the URL code outlined above twice, as so:

Code: [Select]

That should do the job. The result will be:

Of course, in the second line you will have to change the parts "http://img571.imageshack.us/i/17ddevernote0.png/" and "http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/784/17ddevernote0.png" to insert another image.

Is it feasible to include a Dropbox link in a posting where I want to share photographs?

Yes you can use the instructions above with weblinks to Dropbox photos. Here's how to get public links:

http://yougotme.hubpages.com/hub/Using- ... -and-Email

However, personally I try to avoid using Dropbox for this purpose. If you ever move, remove, change the photos in your dropbox folder it might break the link and render the forum post with and empty image. IMHO, it's better to use a "permanent" upload site, such as described above, but feel free to use whatever method suits you, of course! :-)

I created an album in flickr and the images in my post requesting bird id  load when I click on them.  Can anyone tell me how to upload images.  I do not understand the existing forum and the comments on "img" etc.  If I direct load from my computer they are too big.

Ok, go to your photo in Flickr and click the arrow button in bottom right corner to "share" the photo. Select "BBC Code" and a medium size, then copy the link provided. Now create your message here on the forums and simply "paste" your photo link into the text box. Use the preview button to see if it worked. That's it!

p.s.  Make sure that any photos you want to share are made "public" on your Flickr page

Thanks to an old message from Chris Ito, I am now able to post photos from flickr. The Key was to select "medium" size photo so it shows the whole photo on the posting. Thanks Chris
Here are his instructions again
1. go to your photo in Flickr and click the arrow button in bottom right corner to "share" the photo.
2. Select "BBC Code" and a medium size, then copy the link provided.
3. Now create your message here on the forums and simply "paste" your photo link into the text box.
4. Use the preview button to see if it worked. That's it!
