Thanks for the wonderful responses, its the first time for this bird up here so I'm very excited, I'm hoping to see the herons back too this summer, we had about 5 last summer (night herons and 1 great blue)

Thanks Meghan, he was like the Victoria Day Special, haven't seen him for a few days now..maybe he was just passing through? not sure if he was in plumage wouldn't that mean he was nest not too far ? maybe the more experienced birders would know about their habits better...*looks around for help*

Congratulations on a great capture. You're very lucky to have this picture taken. I'm in that park at least once a week so how I wish he'll be there on my next visit.
