This is sad indeed

o/t When I was down Picton way
I saw a squirrel right on top of
a birdhouse.. there were I believe
swallows in the house

It just stayed right on the top

this got me to thinking...we have always had a robins nest in the crabapple tree in front of our house...and I noticed the other day that the parents were feeding the nestlings but didn't think they were ready to fledge...but the nest was strangely silent today so I climbed up on a ladder to find the nest empty...I've also noticed that they have been battling jays very aggressively for the past few weeks...I'm thinking the jays won...

In my case, the robins built in a honeysuckle bush (a large honeysuckle bush....) in front of the kitchen window. I did not see a Jay in the bush, but the robins did send them packing when they showed up elsewhere in the garden.
My prime candidates are aerial rats, I am sad to say.
"Halton Hills" ' post and picture is an option, but squirrels climb walls.
I suppose the whole thing comes down to how many rats, jays and cowbirds are in your specific area...
