Had a female at the feeder most of the day today....... :shock:

Even though they breed in Southern Ontario.......have never seen one before at this time of year (Glen Williams area)

You may be keeping the Blue Birds but I'm hoarding the Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks down the road from you. Have at least 2 males and one female come visiting daily since spring. I don't pay them much attention anymore as they are so regular but I should take note if they are travelling with young ones yet.

Is this the usual case for you?

I normally only see them for a couple of days or so in the spring, and then again as they pass through in the fall.

They have been regulars for the past 5-6 years although some years they seem to disappear for a few weeks, I suspect when they are nesting. We have feeders both in back and front of the house and they seem to dominate the back which is more of a deep woods setting. They eat the black oil sunflower seed

We had never seen a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak before when we lived near Brantford.  Now, near Delhi, we have seen them each summer we have been here.  The males are a beautiful bird.  We have a couple of pairs here.  Yes they like the sunflower seeds and peanuts.

I guess it all depends on the specific locale and the micro habitat that a bird may prefer.

It really illustrates how subtle differences can affect what species one might have in their yard.

I live down the road from RKD and despite my feeders being filled with Black Oil......this is the first time I've seen a Grosbeak at this time of year.
