Northern Flicker

Northern Flicker (Red-shafted?)
Large brown bird with spots and stripes and a distinct red spot at the back of the head in my yard in Thorold, On

I think up here we find generally the yellow shafted race but I could be wrong...the red spot seems like a good indicator....was it on the ground? They do spend a lot of time I guess foraging for worms and bugs on lawns...and its got a heck of a cackle...
