I was down along the Harbourfront last Saturday (the 17th) and came across this Black Crowned Night Heron.  At first I thought he/she was injured but that was not the case...  it is a local resident of the marina and not too shy of people.

He looks a bit timid in this photo but there actually was a person sitting on either side of him.  I guess with a new comer arriving (myself and Angie) he got a bit cautious.

Once he got comfortable with our presence it was all fine and dandy.  I really wanted to sit down close to him but we had a boat to catch so I could only get a few photos in.

I like this one the best just because of the background.

Amazing shots Rob!
I'm surprised at how tame the bird is!

Uh, can you get a little closer, please? My wife and I were vacationing in Honolulu recently where Black Crowned Night Herons were always hanging around the Koi ponds. I think once they focus in on good feeding areas, they don't seem to be too worried about the closeness of humans. Great photos!

Very nice - I've never known them to be so open to people.

Thanks.  It was a great surprise for us to see him.  I seldom get down that way but am more tempted to do so again soon.  I figure a Sunday morning stroll might be good in August.

Rob, great series of pics, nice close-ups, all we need now are the 3-D glasses.
Nice job.
