Good morning.

Yesterday was another one of those nice days to be out on The Spit and besides the nice weather there were some nice birds out there as well but surprisingly few people until late in the day.

The morning started with a close encounter with an adult Coyote at the second gate and ended with a Red-throated Loon and a possible (I say possible) Pacific Loon seen off the entrance Causeway in the late afternoon.

Othe birds seen during the day were 21 Waterfowl species, including Red-necked Grebe, Red-throated and Common Loons, American Coot, Ring-necked Ducks, and all 3 Merganser species, Northern Shrike and Great Blue Heron. We also had reports of Belted Kingfisher, Lesser Scaup and Yellow-rumped Warbler and there now appear to be 2 juvenile Red-tailed Hawks patroling The Spit along with the American Kestrels.

Always a different mix of wildlife out there.

PS

Don't forget the meeting on Jan. 17th at Radisson Admiral Hotel, 249 Queens Quay West at 6pm where the politicians, etc. (AKA Park Designers) reveal the future of The Spit and the latest plan to take away part of it.
