Today I was lucky to see some really nice birds at Van Wagner's Beach in Hamilton. After having read this ONTBIRDS report, I made my way over there as fast as I could (taking the GO train to Burlington and then on bike) and between 4.30pm and 6pm I managed to see the following:

1   Ruddy Turnstone
1   Sabine's Gull
1   Caspian Tern
2   Long-tailed Jaeger (1 ad, 1 juv)
1      Long-tailed/Parasitic Jaeger (juv)

See full recap here.

On my way back I also found 8 Sanderings scattered along Beach Boulevard south of Burlington canal.

Lots of birders enjoying the Jaegers at Van Wagner's Beach:

Sounds pretty interesting.   Best viewing days are on East Winds.

At least two Long-tailed Jaegers are still present at Van Wagners Beach as of today. My wife and I drove to this Hamilton location and our timing couldn't have been better. We arrived about noonish, talked to a few birders who had been there awhile who explained that the sightings today had been infrequent. That gave me and the missus time to have fish and chips at Hutch's and to emerge to see both the subadult and the juvenile, younger bird terrorizing the local gulls. Just a word of thanks to the half dozen scope and camera toting birders who were pleased to allow us and many passers-by the opportunity to view the birds through their powerful equipment. Birders are great people, don't you agree?
