Good evening .

Today I again tagged along with Margaret Liubavicius as we birded Humber Bay Park, Sunnyside Beach and a short walk through High Park.

Among the 19 Waterfowl species we found at Humber Bay was a Horned Grebe, 3 Swan species including Mute, Trumpeter, and a 1st summer Tundra Swan, a beautiful male Harlequin Duck off the far east point of Humber Bay Park east (we told everyone we met about this bird even non birders and non photographer types    so there !!!), Ring-necked, and 3 Ruddy Ducks, 5 A. Coots, all 3 Merganser species along with the usual species of Waterfowl. We also found 2 N. Mockingbirds and 2 Horned Larks.

At Sunnyside Beach among the 250 or so Gulls was a 1st year Glaucous Gull plus 75+ Redhead Ducks and in High Park we found the Red-bellied Woodpecker, 5 Hairy Woodpeckers, both Nuthatches, and White-throated Sparrows at Spring and Centre Roads.

One of the surprises in High Park were some A. Robins, not that we saw some but the that we counted 106 of them. There were probably more but that is what we saw. These birds flew up from the zoo/animal enclosure area to the area beside the Flower Garden just north of Hillside Rd on Colborne Lodge Rd.

After exiting this area turn left (west) and drive to the entrance to Humber Bay West which immediatly on your left as you cross the bridge.

The male mentioned in NM's report is at the mouth of the Humber river, along with the usual suspects. Two years ago, the group plus the Harlequin were regular visitors to the mouth of the river. So this weekend you might want to start your search here.

Interesting. 2 years ago, that's where I found the Harlequin as well.

So I guess if you don't see it at Humber East, then try the River.
