Great shots, you know what they say,,, build it and they will come..I figure birds are the same, once they know food was there..they will check and peep/call their buddies.
I"m glad this is a success. :)

Today the Juncos were back at the feeders, House finches were singing in the beautiful sunshine, and I could hear the familiar "Oh-Canada, Canada, Canada" phrase of the White-throated Sparrow. Feels like spring!

Lots of birds at the feeders today after tonight's snowfall. Similar numbers as in the past week, but 10+ Juncos.

One of the park's white squirrels was having fun on one of the sunflower seed feeders.

An American Tree Sparrow showed up at the feeders on Wednesday.

There is a video of some of the sparrows here:

Dark-eyed Junco

Today I met a friendlily couple who brought another feeder to the current collection. Thank you! It's a suet feeder, and the Downy Woodpeckers love it. Video here:

Didn't manage to find the White-crowned Sparrow today. Busy, but not very diverse.

Wow Andreas .. nice shots!  I've never seen an Albino squirrel before .  You said 'one of' so I gather there is more than one .. how nice!  Question re bird counts.
I have many many birds at our backyard feeders.  Since I can't tell them apart .. how can count how many of each species ?  One day we had 9 species at one time, but I can't hazard a guess as to how many times the same bird came back (and I would have counted it multiple times).

Thanks.

Apparently there are three or four white squirrels in the park.

I only count the birds seen simultaneously at any given time.

Pigeons and House Sparrow

A couple of new guests arrived to the feeders today, Pigeons! I'm rather surprised they haven't found their way to my little free-food outlet before. The White-crowned and White-throated Sparrows are presents, but Woodpeckers have not been seen in a week or so.

Birds of the day:

2   Rock Pigeon
2   Black-capped Chickadee
1   Red-breasted Nuthatch
1   White-throated Sparrow
1   White-crowned Sparrow
1   Dark-eyed Junco
8   House Finch
10   American Goldfinch

Downy Woodpecker

I was out to the feeders Friday, Saturday, Sunday this past weekend to count for the Great Backyard Bird Count, and managed to report all species frequenting the feeders lately. I wrote a blog post with videos here:

House Finch

On the Great Backyard Bird Count weekend I also noted this unusually un-streaked House Finch at the feeders. Compare with the more average streaking on the bird to the left below.

American Tree Sparrow

It's thinning out a little bit at the Trinity Bellwoods feeders. American Robins are back, singing, and I found an American Tree Sparrow today (click here for video), but otherwise it was pretty quiet:

I'm wondering if purple x house hybrid has been recorded, I can't find anything more than speculation. But this looks an awful lot like what I'd expect it to look like.

You can be sure I was thinking Purple Finch more than once that day! I don't have experience with hybrids either. All I know is that House Finches can be very variable. If anyone reading this has experience from unstreaked individuals, please let us know.
