Just had two Pine Siskens show up at my feeders. First of the season for us.

We live in the Bathurst/Sheppard area. Today, I had one Pine Siskin hanging out with the goldfinches at our nyger feeder. It is also the first of the season for me.

Maybe this will be another good winter for siskins.  I had a flock of about 30 birds hanging around my house this afternoon.  Oddly for siskins, they were feeding mainly in deciduous trees.

Out here, it got really cold, then it warmed back up and I think the birds are confused!

I guess I better put out some extra nyjer this weekend.  What was it, two or three years ago we had that irruption?  I had never seen a Siskin before then.  I had a couple dozen of them that winter along with about half a dozen Common Redpolls.  And have not seen either since then.  So, that could be a good thing to see.  But, does that mean we have a sign of possibly a nasty winter coming?  I keep hearing bits here and there about such.
