I think this may be a Red-shouldered hawk or a Broad-winged hawk? The barring on the breast suggests it is red-shouldered. Any thoughts would be appreciated. It was flying on the thermals with turkey vultures, which surprised me, as I have never seen this before ( see 2nd photo).  Is that normal?

A bad day birding is better than a good day at work!!

Yes, that's an adult Red-shouldered Hawk. Broad-winged Hawks have already migrated south weeks ago. Thin white bands on the tail are the give away. Could be confused also with adult Cooper's Hawk, but it has a different body shape with a longer tail.

Thanks for your help. I was even surprised the Turkey vultures are still here.
