Hi everyone.  Today at 4:15pm, a Cooper's Hawk flew past my livingroom window twice then headed up to rooftop of building - second day in a row he has done this.  Yesterday was at 11am.  What a beauty - gorgeous hawk!   :D  Today, I went out on my balcony and could hear him up there screeching away!

"The most common call is a loud, grating cak-cak-cak, 2-5 seconds long, given by both sexes in defense of the nest. This call is also given during courtship."  Hmm ... things might be getting interesting.  8)

He was also up at Maplewood Park on Friday afternoon.  (East side of Glen Erin Dr., just North of Aquitaine Ave.)

My building:  SE corner of Glen Erin Dr./Aquitaine Ave.

Update:  Monday February 7th ...

1:30pm - once again sitting on the rooftop of my building then he headed North towards Maplewood Park.  So, I went looking around Maplewood Park but nothing there and last year's nest is full of snow.

2:30pm ... He was in a tree at the back of my building, sitting about 30+ feet up, preening.  I was watching him until 3pm.   :D

I'm thinking there are much more Hawk sightings this winter.

A birth certificate shows we were born.  A death certificate shows we died.  Pictures show we live.

Rob ... Yes, I agree.  I've sighted way more this Winter!  This past week has been awesome with Cooper's, Red-tailed (adult and imm.) and Sharp-shinned.  :D Perhaps it's a sign of an early Spring on the way?  Wouldn't know it today, eh? -25c windchill ... but at least it's sunny. Time to bundle up in many layers and head out for a walk.

Another Update:  Fri. Feb. 11th, 1:30pm ... male Cooper's Hawk was flying directly at my livingroom window!  My tabby cat ran to the window, stretched out one of her arms/paw and meowed.  Hawk veered off to the left, wing tip almost brushed the window (way too close for comfort!) then headed up towards the roof!  Think I'd better pull the blinds across for now as birds fly by here all the time right at eye level, usually going past though not directly at!  Cripes.
