After school today from 4:30-5:45 I went birding today in Turney Woods (my backyard) in search of new spring migrants. Turney Woods is the 6 acre woodlot at the corner of Erin Mills Parkway and Brittania Road in Mississauga. It is a great spring migrant trap, as it offers several different habitats, some of my birds seen today included:

Golden/Ruby-crowned Kinglets
Yellow-Rumped Warblers
Hermit Thrushes
Winter Wrens (3)
Carolina Wren
Eastern Phoebe
Red/White-breasted Nuthatches
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (2)
Downy/Hairy Woodpeckers
Northern Flickers (2)
Chipping/Fox Sparrows
Sharp-shinned/Red-tailed Hawk

Looking Forward to what the coming weeks will bring :D

How do you access it Will, other than through your back yard?

From Erin Mills Parkway, turn right on Vista Blvd, left on Turney drive, left on Hargood place and follow Hargood Place past Hargood Court where you will find the entrance to the park, (it is a paved pathway going down a hill and you can park on the road). From Britannia road, turn left on Turney drive and when you get to the small plaza (convinece store and a Dominoes pizza) there is plenty of parking space available and the path is right beside the parking lot. There is a large mature forest, a small marsh with cattails and a small meadow with poplars, there is also a swampy area with willow trees. I have racked up quite a list here in the last few years, its a great spot espcially for someone who lives in the area. If anyone would like to visit in the coming weeks, let me know and I would love to show you around, after all its my backyard :)
