Saw my 1st yellow-bellied sapsucker today (but it was dead)

Posting this because I *think* that some board members may taxiderm dead birds and because its the first time that i knowingly have seen a yellow bellied sapsucker.

it was on hwy 7 near Bathurst in a strip mall. thinking that it flew into the glass.

The only time I ever saw a YBS (dumb abbreviation) he was dead too! What a coincidence. I saw mine a few years ago at the foot of one of the Bay St. bank buildings...
Live birds are better, eh, Richard?

Thankfully I saw my first one alive, and last  May at Queens Park. It's actually a great park for migratory birds during the month of May.

Funny enough, as I was just looking over some pictures from last Fri. at High Park, I came upon a faraway picture of what I thought (at the time) was a female hairy woodpecker...a closer zoom in reveals...wait for it...a yellow-bellied sapsucker! Alive and well in a high tree. A horrendous photo, but who gives a care? Nice bird!

its funny because yesterday, i thought "i have no idea how i would be able to ID a YBSS. So I'll probably never see one." sure enough, i saw a beautiful male...but they aren't so pretty when they're sleeping on their backs.

I saw my first one ever last Spring in Lambton.  I didn't know what it was for much of the time viewing it, just knew it was different...  eventually I figured it out.

Yes, Spring migration.  FLAP will be busy.
