Hello there everybody. I headed on over to Thickson Woods and Lynde Shores Conservation Area today. My finds at Thickson Woods:

10+ Tree Swallows
15+ Red-winged Blackbirds
4 Male Northern Cardinals
10+ Common Grackles
10+ Black-Capped Chickadees
5+ American Robins
3 Northern Flickers
1 Great Horned Owl

As usual the Great Horned Owl was a great sight. Back in March I talked with a lady and she said there were two GHO's in the same tree together and I saw one that day. This probably means the the GHO has found a mate. And there was a big nest made out of branches around 3 times the size of a squirrel's nest up in a big pine tree, so that is hopefully the Owl's nest. Pellets were also found around the base of another pine tree near the GHO.

Lynde Shores had some nice birds aswell. Here are my finds:

10+ Black-Capped Chickadees
15+ Red-winged Blackbirds
10 Mute Swans
1 Unknown Sparrow

The Chickadees were overly friendly, for example when I point at a bird one Chickadee comes flying at me and lands on my finger! On a unfortunate note, when I asked a birder where the Barred Owl was, he said that people and photographers scared it away when they tried to make it fly so they could get a picture. That made me feel pretty sick inside. People have got to stop stressing out the owls just for a picture! Besides that it was a great birding. Pictures will be up soon on my website

I don't know about people scaring it, but the barred would have left for parts further north regardless by now.

The Barred was still at Lynde Shores on the weekend but has retreated deeper into the woods.
