sad that you didn't get any pics of hoopoes. they are beautiful. tonnes of them in Tzippori (an amazing place to find ancient mosaics as well).
did you have a chance to go to Lake Hula up north? this is probably the time of year to find the african migrating birds flying through. its an excellent park.

I saw quite a few Hoopoes, but none close enough for a photo.
I went by Lake Hula, but didn't have a chance to stop. (It wasn't a birding trip.) It was prime time for migrants. I really don't know how many of the birds I saw were moving through, but it was quite a sight to see flocks of migrating storks soaring like hawks.
There are lots of tricky families and LBJs there. I had to throw a lot back, but I just find it fascinating to see how completely different families of birds fill the same ecological niche in different parts of the world.
