On a trip to Israel earlier this month, I managed to add about 30 species to my life list.  (At least they would be new birds if I actually sat down and compiled a life list, but I haven't attempted that in many years. :oops: )  I always had an eye out for birds, but I didn't try to capture images of many.  Here are a few cooperative individuals that posed for me.

I always find it interesting to see birds from other countries. I try to see what species I can relate them too here. The Green Bee-eater is striking!  :D Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic photos!  #1 is so beautiful and colourful.

sad that you didn't get any pics of hoopoes. they are beautiful. tonnes of them in Tzippori (an amazing place to find ancient mosaics as well).

did you have a chance to go to Lake Hula up north? this is probably the time of year to find the african migrating birds flying through. its an excellent park.

I saw quite a few Hoopoes, but none close enough for a photo.  :(   I went by Lake Hula, but didn't have a chance to stop.  (It wasn't a birding trip.)  It was prime time for migrants.  I really don't know how many of the birds I saw were moving through, but it was quite a sight to see flocks of migrating storks soaring like hawks.

There are lots of tricky families and LBJs there.  I had to throw a lot back, but I just find it fascinating to see how completely different families of birds fill the same ecological niche in different parts of the world.
