I retired in March and plan on doing a lot more birding. Time for a new pair of binos, I thought, and has chance would have it, I watched an episode of the TV show, 'How it's Made.' A segment depicted the making of Steiner binos and I was very impressed.
I purchased Steiner Merlin 8x42 and after a few field trips can report my complete satisfaction with them. I would recommend them to any birder.
