Hello all,

Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) has just begun the 5th consecutive year of the Migration Monitoring Program at Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station (TTPBRS). TTPBRS operates a daily migration program in spring and fall and has expanded in recent years to include other vital monitoring programs across the GTA including the Great Lakes Marsh Monitoring Program, Northern Saw-whet Owl Banding, Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship and many more. Bird banding demonstrations at TTPBRS are offered to the public during morning hours on weekends and holidays from April 1-June 9 and August 5-November 12.

The first few days of the season have been productive at TTPBRS as large numbers of Brown Creeper, Slate-colored Junco, Fox Sparrow and Golden-crowned Kinglets have been passing through. Observations have included Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, American Bittern, European Goldfinch, and Glaucous Gull.

Many of you may be interested in following the spring migration at Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie St. Spit). You can view daily summaries and weekly reports from TTPBRS at our sightings board http://ttpbrs.blogspot.com

Cheers,

Dan Derbyshire
