An afternoon at Downsview Park

A beautiful windy day at Downsview Park.   I was able to take a two hour early afternoon walk, these are the birds I was able to identify.

 1-American Kestrel  (Female)
3- Killdeer
1 Palm Warbler
2- Blue Jays
1 Yellow Shafted Northern Flicker
4 American Goldenfinches  
2 Mallard Ducks (male and female)
3 Northern Mockingbirds

A lot of:
tree swallows
red-winged black birds
American Robins

I am very curious about the growing bird population at Downsview Park, please help me out and post if you see any birds in the area.

Hi Jonny,

I don't live far from Downsview Park, so I might drive over for a visit. Do you walk in from the neighbourhood or do you drive? Where is a good place to park and then walk to the birds?

You can entry the park on John Drury Dr just off Sheppard.  Continue on John Drury Dr until you see a a small roundabout, you can park there and continue on foot.  You will see the Downsview forest (a lot of newly planted trees with white protectors on the stems) in front of you.  There are some good wetter areas of the forest closer to the lake.  Also there is a Kestrel that likes to hang out on the telephone wire near the entrance to the forest.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.  


So far today I have seen some Flickers, a red tailed hawk, Northern Mockingbirds, red-winged blackbirds, Blue Jays, some warblers (couldn't identify them), Kill deer, and the Kestrel!
