Snapping Turtle laying eggs
on:
June 09, 2011, 03:56:11 PM
I stumbled upon this snapper late one evening as it was laying its eggs. Not the best pic as I only had my P&S.
The turtle was digging and laying eggs for over an hour. She layed at least 20 eggs, each about 1" in diameter.
Crop from above photo to better show the eggs

Incredible! It amazes me what is living around us in the city, if we only take the time to look.

Awesome timing and shots. What a great experience to see too.
There was a show along time ago about turtles and their survival, its amazing that they survive at all considering what the little ones have to go through to get to water after hatching.
