So with all work and not much time for play, withdrawal symptoms from going out and hunting..errr finding birds to photograph...I think I have fallen into a rut!
I went for a walk the other day and it was...ohh look...there's yet ANOTHER Cardinal, and walked right past a perfect opportunity for a stunning photo...why...I have no idea!

I love birds, but something is amiss. Do I need a break? maybe it's just birdie-burnout?
has anyone else ever felt like this?
my hubby was stunned when I even dismissed the idea of going for a bird walk which I absolutely LOVE going on!

maybe this will pass...just a little bump in the road...

happy birding to all...

Irene

Well that's the problem. Not bird burn-out, WORK burn-out. My wife's going through the same thing. It's "pressure time" where she works so it's long days and weekends too. She's not interested in anything, lately. Once things settle down at work, we'll go on holidays. I'm certain a few days away from the work environment will have a positive affect on both you and my wife.

I do agree with Lloyd and am in the same position myself with a very busy time at work.  If I have any energy, I push myself out the door and once out walking and "hunting", I feel the stress dissipating.  This is a time of year that many people do take a break or turn to other areas of photography.  I'm planning on going d/t Toronto on the w/e with my camera club and trying my hand at street photography.  Time will tell how that turns out :)  I've never felt comfortable snapping people on the street.  A few months and we'll be out shooting the quackers - not that I'm rushing it!!

It's interesting when you mention about not taking a pic of a Cardinal.   I can relate to that, but I learned this year with joining a camera club, that people are looking for a great picture and non-birders aren't impressed or interested because you got a shot of a rare or more unusual bird.  Anyway, fodder for the old noggin.  Keep on going out and shooting!!

Thanks Lloyd and Moira, too much work and no play really reflects on my picture taking as well, I noticed that lately my shots have been..not so great..as if i'm not focusing on what I am doing...
I'm going to take a deep breath and try to refocus...I wish a holiday was in the near future but sadly we are short staffed and unless I am contagious or other...I have to be there. hmmm pondering a mental health day? LOLOL
Your words are encouraging and helpful :) and I am looking forward to going out to celebrate Canada day! 9more days..I'm counting down! I will be taking the camera with me as well so here's to hoping for some fun and amazing shots.

Perhaps switching to another subject may keep you going.  Bugs are extremely beautiful creatures and with today's advances in photography photos can be spectaclur to say the least.  Beetles, dragonflies, butterflies, moths, spiders, whatever your fancy, they're all out there waiting to be photographed.  Also the timing could not be better, they appear just as the spring bird migration is finishing and start to disappear as the birds return.  Just a thought.

Walter  :)

It doesn't hurt to open up your horizons. Bird photo's don't always have to be a frame filling image, try for behavioral, environmental shots etc.

I often shoot dragonflies, butterflies, flowers and any mammals around as well.

I've also been doing a lot of video recently.

Thanks Kin Lau, I'm also doing a lot of reading about photography and different types, and also learning some of the intricate optoins that my camera offers :) This is helpful and fun as well.

I find this time of year more challenging with the birds due to all the leaves and foliage.  As Walter mentioned, insects are a great photo subject.  I love to capture them with the lens and blow the pics up on the screen.  It is stunning what these teeny tiny creatures really look like...  so much detail!

Other than that, I try for a distant shot of a bird in the foliage wherever I travel.  Someone once called it on here "bird-scapes" instead of landscapes.  Find a nice spot and you can take some beautiful pics.

Here's one of mine... (at least I think it's a beauty of a shot of mine)  :)

A birth certificate shows we were born.  A death certificate shows we died.  Pictures show we live.

Beautiful!...thanks for sharing I love both pictures :) Gives me a whole new outlook on things :)
I have also been kept busy keeping an eye on a family of racoons (5 of them) in Marie Curtis Park, they are very entertaining and
some has also abandoned a beautiful black cat who had kittens (father of kittens is an old tom cat) so now we have 4 feral cats/kittens in our back parking lot ( and yes I have been feeding them which is probably wrong, but I can't  help it, they are so cute! The mother can't be more then 2 years old and kittens are about 4-5 weeks now.

just call me Irene aka possessed by Francis of Assisi :)

It seems that somehow strays are drawn to me...maybe they just know I will care and try to rescue them?..i just don't know
