I returned to Bluffers Park today to try and get some pictures of Belted Kingfishers I had seen there a few days ago. The Kingfishers were still there and I managed to get a few shots but to my surprise one of the first things I found was a Green Heron (first time for me and somehow I though they were a little bigger). Also saw a Common Tern and what looks to be Juvenile Minks. I started a flickr set for things I've found at Bluffers Park and you can see pictures of everything above here http://www.flickr.com/photos/64018347@N ... 312149278/

I have been meaning to go there for the past 3 weeks but one thing or other has always disrupted my plans.

Will certainly make an effort to get there next week.

Thanks for giving me something to look for.

I looked at your flickr images: some great shots, in particular the egret in flight.
What time of day were you there, and what lens where you using?
Am I right that all the sightings were near the metal bridge of sorts with a gate  which is always (?) padlocked?

Yes pacharo. The sightings were all at the west most end of the park where you'll find a series of metal pontoon bridges. All but one of the bridges are locked except the one which crosses from north to south (I believe there's only one). I'm not sure if this bridge remains open at all times or if this is only beween certain hours but you can access the entire area using the outside walking trails. The pictures were taken with a Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD lens. The Egret pics were taken at around 11:00AM although I was there yesterday and this past Wednesday just after 5:00PM on both counts and saw more (see this post and member Whittam's previous post on the Great Egret at Bluffer's Park which I had been updating). I have yet to go there and not see at least one of the juvenile Night Herons at any time. There is also a pair of Mute Swans which usually hang around there although I did not see them there on my last two visits.

Funny. Another member was at Bluffers Park today to try and see if he could spot him but didn't. I guess he might hang around the general area and just drop in once in a while. I believe Rosetta isn't very far west along the bluffs. The member PMed me and said he did see a Peregrine Falcon though so all was not lost.

Yes flypast was at about 3:52pm. I hung around a couple of hours (shooting bugs) keeping an eye on the sky all that time but he did not come back that way.
