This is more of a story than a picture...
Tonight, my wife and I had dinner at my brother's house, which is near Eglinton West station. After dinner (at around 7:30 PM), we and his kids went down the street for an ice cream. On the way home, my niece asked me if i could carry her, so I put her on my shoulders and started to walk. I turned north up the street where the Timothy's is and noticed something twitch on the sidewalk. As I got closer, I realized that it was a bird. I took my niece off my shoulders and got close. It was a chimney swift. I knew that chimney swifts can't fly if they land on the ground. Here this swift was, wings fully extended, and pressed flat on the ground.
We took my niece's sweater and i was going to attempt to gently wrap the swift up and elevate it. On my second attempt, it climbed onto the sweater and I could feel its little feet clinging tightly to the sweater. I could also tell that it was frightened. I have to admit that I was incredibly tempted to start petting its little head. It was incredibly cute and had these sad eyes that were relatively large compared to other birds its size. It kept its wings spread while it was on the sweater. I looked at it and it didn't look like it had anything broken.
i walked across the street to the parkette and went to place the swift on a tree trunk. I figured that it would be high enough for it to fly again. After taking a quick pic with my cell phone, I walked away about 30 feet. I turned around to look back and it was gone. I did a quick scan of the ground and I saw nothing.
As we walked west, I looked up and you could see a lone speck circling the sky, very high in the air. I knew that the bird made it back up to safety.
Here's 1 of the two pics I quickly took. And I hope you enjoyed my story.
