They really don't need our help in the summer, so much natural food is available (which I am trying to grow some of that actually is more like fall food though... viburnams, Cardinal Candy, Holly Berries). And I don't mind sharing our raspberries and blueberries too.
But I still do feed them because Ang and I spend so much time in the backyard and it's nice to have them come around. And in the summer, we bring in Orioles which are not here in the cold months.
I do cut back in the summer, only filling the feeders once in the morning. The most popular ones empty in a couple hours. My nyjer feeders might need filling once a week. Weekends they get another fill later in the day when we are home.
The bird baths get changed 2, 3, 4, sometimes 5 times a day.
