Impressive photos!

I am a newbie as a bird photographer; my longest glass for now is a 300/4 (no vibration reduction) with 1.4X TC; I have been using it on a monopod for the usual reason.

Can you tell me what lens you used, how it was supported, were you using a full frame body, and are the photos cropped to any extent?

Thanks!
Moy

hi moy.
thanks for the comments.
these were cropped but not that much.taken with a canon 7-D,and canon 400 f/5.6,non IS,and hand-held.
IS is great, but not necessary for flight shots, and in fact slows the focus speed down.my 500 f/4 had IS but i turned it off for IF,s for that reason.hope this helps

Thanks Denis - useful info in particular the fact that you are able to handhold a 400mm lens (I imagine practice is part of it!) and also your tip about not using VR for BIF.

you,re welcome.
it,s not bad actually,as it,s not a heavy lens beeing an f/5.6.
the clincher is,i have a brace made by a fellow in oshawa, that helps tremendously.
