Not sure as we were there in the summer. We saw some good birds right down in The Forks. There are trees more towards the rivers.

Assiniboine Park was also quite productive. The Living Prairie Museum had some grassland birds.

The best place fairly close to town was Oak Hammock Marsh, which is about 30-40 minutes north of the city.

I would suggest Oak Hammock as well, although I'm not sure how birding will be at this time, but it is a good migrant trap.

Also about 1/2 to 3/4hr east of Winnipeg is Seven Sisters falls, and it's a great spot for American White Pelicans.... assuming they're still around.

Your post brought a past sighting to mind.
A few years back I visited the CWB in Winnepeg ( currently a news topic ) , and my contact was also a birder . He showed me a peregrine nest situated on the roof of a bank - being monitored through a camera with the monitor set up in the teller area of the bank . The falcon was not at the nest , however, I did spot it couple of times flying in the area.
