5 male Cardinals and 3 females at my feeder this evening at the same time. They arrived together and seemed rather at peace with each other. I have had single couples at my feeder for the past almost 3 decades. Any time a third one arrived they were quickly taken care of and chased out of the presiding owners territory so I am rather perplexed by the arrival of so many Cardinals. My only guess is they are a family group and will stay together for the winter. Is this unusual behaviour for Cardinals?

They are sometimes in flocks in winter, I've been seeing loads this winter, including one flock of about 25! They must have had a good breeding year.

so you stole my couple! just kidding, that must be a site, bright red on these grey gloomy days.

The 3 hawks that have been hanging arounf our feeder duse to fat and lazy Doves have spooked all other birds .... but the cardy's do feed at the exact time EVERY day, yes, EXACT time +/- 10min ;

just prior to sunrise.
just after set.

clever.

Birding takes my mind off stuff and it adds good life to a tuff life. It also helps me forget about my spine pain and stress.  Laugh, eat, be merry.  Anybody with extra $ may send me some as It will permit me to travel.
