It was a CAVU day yesterday at Aquitaine -  ( Ceiling and Visability Unlimited )

The regulars were there - Jays, Cardinals, Chickadees, Doves, Ducks,

2 new sightings - Red Breasted Nuthatch and ( what I think is )  a House Finch - please help.

Later in the day I  went to Port Credit at the mouth of the Credit River.  Lots of Geese and Mallards ( M& F).
Also Longtail Ducks, Buffle Head Ducks, and 2 Mute Swans and 1 Trumpeter Swan

The Trumpeter was tagged #038 on the left wing. had a pretty clear view of this number when ( he/she ?) ruffled the wings.

There was also a tag on the right wing but I didn't clearly see that number.  Being a virtual newie to birding I am only guessing that the left wing has a different number, and the whole number is a 6 digit number?  Maybe my guess is wrong?

Reported to the website you provided,  Bob

Hi Bob.  Thank You for reporting this swan.  #038 will be on both left and right wing (same number on each wing).

Just had an interesting conversation with Mr. Harry Lumsden.  This swan has quite the history!!!

She's a female, hatched in 2007 and banded September 18, 2007 at Grand Valley.  Her parents are #091 and #365.

Over the years, she's been sighted at Bronte Creek (Oakville), LaSalle (Burlington), Port Credit (Mississauga), Cooksville Creek (Mississauga) then in 2009 was sighted in Pennsylvania, USA.  Wow!  After this, she was sighted in Etobicoke, Port Credit (Mississauga), Rattray Marsh (Mississauga) and Port Credit (Mississauga) with male #E90.  They mated but didn't have any offspring.  There hadn't been any sightings reported for #038 for awhile until your sighting.   8)

Jo-Anne - thanks for the info.  Quite a history indeed.  We're going back to Port Credit on Wednesday morning for another walk, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Not too much activity at Aquitaine tis morning, just the regulars.  Had a nice 6km walk ( 4 times) around the lake tho -

BTW - no ducks at Aquitaine yesterday.  I spoke to another walker there and he told me they were all over at Wabukayne - he said about 200, so I stoppedin there on the way home.  Sure enough they were !!  Many more than usally at Aquitaine.

Depending on the weather I may take a stroll at Riverwood tomorrow.

There used to be a gorgeous male Wood Duck with the Mallards at Wabukayne, occasionally he would visit Aquitaine and he was trying to mate with a female Mallard - did not happen.  It made for some really spectacular displays though by him and an angry, protective male Mallard.  Some construction happened at Wabukayne, "Woody" and all Mallards disappeared.   :(

Apparently tomorrow is sun/cloud and light flurries.  Not sure what sort of windchill they're predicting.
