On Sunday, my husband and I, along with Big Frank and Carol LaPointe, visited the Carden Alvar. We had a good day, even though it started out cold and windy. We had long looks at some good birds. And, we saw a coyote and 2 porcupines feeding in small trees.
-Upland Sandpiper
-Common Snipe, sitting on fence posts, or flying and making the "winnowing" sound
-Bobolinks
-E. Meadowlarks
-E. Bluebirds
-Sedge Wren, singing in the sedge marsh
-2 A. Bittern, squabbling and chasing each other in the marsh
-E. Towhee
-Osprey, 2 occupied nests
-1 Wild Turkey
-Turkey Vultures, N. Harriers, and the bird of the day
-1 Loggerhead Shrike, by Bluebird box 10. (Thank you to Margaret Bain for letting us look at the bird through her spotting scope.)
