Ross's Goose Brampton

Just before 9 am this morning (Feb. 9) observed the Ross's Goose at Professor's Lake in Brampton. Two Trumpeter Swans and an American Coot were also present.

Also saw the Ross's Goose there this morning around 9.15 am. In addition hade the birds mentioned plus a Hooded Merganser and an Am. Black Duck (and tons of Canada Geese of course).

Later I stopped by for a short walk at Claireville Conservation Area and found a Red-tailed Hawk, Blue Jays, Am. Tree Sparrow, Mourning Doves, Chickadees and a Downy Woodpecker.

I visited Professors Lake this morning for about 2 hours.

Indeed, there were "tons of geese", my inexperienced guess - 500 plus.

Also "tons" of Mallards - maybe 200 - 300. Also "tons" od gulls, but they were too far away for me to get a good look.  I didn't think at the time that the Ross's Goose might have been mixed in with the gulls ( white !! )  I didn't see any such evidence mixed in with the ducks or geese.

I did spot the American Coot, and got a couple of ( fairly long) pics of it, but clear enough for me to positively identify it.  My first Coot !!  Caught my eye as I saw it dive  ( hmmm!  that's not a Mallard !)

8 Robins ( big fat ones )
2 Chickadees
1 Hairy Woodpecker
6 Dark-eyed Juncos

I went at sunset last night (Friday) to search for the Ross's Goose. I scoured with the binoculars as hundreds of geese and ducks were flying in for the night. I did not see it among the frenzy. Hopefully someone will spot it again.
