I went to Maplewood Park this morning at 6:15am to check on any Coopers hawk activity - there were two birds in the park, I initially found them in the trees partway in the NW direction (taking Glen Erin to be roughly N-S) from the main path close to where they were nesting a couple of seasons ago. I observed them mating, and then both ended up flying back down to another set of trees further towards the SE area.
However, I later saw the male breaking off small sticks and flying them up into a tree again in the NW trees (if you were standing around where the paths meet near the previous nest site, and then face almost exactly towards the exact NW corner of the park, there is a tree there that looks to have the beginnings of a nest. However right now it kind of looks just like a rather amorphous pile of sticks - it looks like it's still got a lot of work at this point. I wasn't able to spot any other potential nest spots, but courtship is obviously underway.
