I spent an hour there today.

No luck on the pileated for me. But some highlights:

red-breasted woodpecker
gold-crowned kinglet x 2
blue jays galore.
1 very large gold and black garter snake

i spent 90 minutes there. I don't go by the river, so I can't comment on water fowl.

notables noticed at the park:

pileated woodpeckers x 2. Ah...its been a long time coming.  Spotted the male hammering away at some trees on the hill near the bridge.  A northern flicker came and fought with it and chased it away. It eventually landed 2 feet off the ground (!!!) and gave a group of spectators some great views. 5 minutes later, i heard the hammering and spotted the female near the river.  Its funny - the male took off north west towards Royal York. The female took off south east.

northern flicker x 2. They were really noisy. looks like they're nesting off the trail.

red-bellied woodpecker x 2. They're also building a nest right along the walking path. Fun to watch. They're up high, so not photo worthy but nice to watch.

Gold-crowned kinglets x lots.  They were really active in the shrubs between the sloppy walking path and the paved by-the-river path.  Can't tell you how many there were, but they would be flying in groups of 2-4 and flitting around.

of course, lots of other woodpeckers and other fun things.
