Everyone has there own personal sign that Spring is officially here.,
For me it is the return of the Great Blue Herons to there nesting sites.
THis Rookery is filling up fast. There were at least 30 birds there with more expected in the coming weeks. They have not really started to rebuild yet. Just hanging out for now. Over the next few weeks they will begin to rebuild the current nest and start, what I hope, is another successful year.

i went this morning before work (i have the luxury of going by on a weekend and watching or, as sunset is later in the day, going on my way home from work). watched for a few minutes.
its incredible to see them gliding silently, some with sticks (not twigs...actual branches) in their mouths, going up to their nest.
going at dusk is incredible because you see these huge, dark silouettes flying around. very Jurassic Park like.
