It appears at least two of our Kestrel friends at Downsview have active nest on the go.

At lunch I spotted a Male carrying a small snake to a high perch  behind the hangers

Napper :)

p.s.
@ home had a Coopers hawk swoop thru the yard within a few feet from where I was standing.

Birds scattered, so I am thinking ok Where is the hawk. Right on queue made it a low approach and swooped up and over

the 6 foot  high lattice I was standing beside. Felt the breeze as he flew by..

I am guessing these are the bombardier Hangars not the Downsview Park Sports hangar?

Oh sorry, I don't know where Napper saw the kestrels I was just guessing.  I did see two kesterals mating by the train tracks today, one than flew over the sports hangar.  Today I also saw two Northern Mockingbirds, a couple of red tailed hawks, a bunch of mourning doves, a lot of killdeer and two Downy woodpeckers in the woodlot across the street

Today I also built two bird boxes that will eventually be placed around the park.  The boxes I built today are very small and are designed for small song birds, more boxes will be built when I have time.

cheers,

Flyingbass

Hey :!:

I see Kestrel's every day! Usually one or more will sit atop the Northern most

hanger nearest the tracks on the Bombardier property.

The nest I am referring to is in the side of a building on the same  property.

The male hunts at Downsview park and at the airfield and returns with food

very frequently.

This has been going on for the last 4 or five years now.
