This afternoon around 2 PM I saw my first Ruby-throat of the year fly through the backyard.  It came from the direction of the feeder next door which I know has been hanging empty all winter.  Unfortunately, I've not put mine out just yet for fear of the water freezing and cracking the base.  That wouldn't do me or the birds much good!

very glad you reported this.
i've put out my feeder and this will be the 1st year that i'm (properly) trying to attract hummingbirds. the pessimist in me says that I won't get any takers, but at least now I know to really be on the lookout.

Last year I had hummingbirds in the bee-balm (Monarda didyma), no doubt due to its bright red tubular flowers.  In my yard it grows in the moist & shady places as well as the dry & sunnier places & despite being a mint is not aggressive.
