One od the "local Rattray folks" told me these were catfish.  I'm not so sure?

I'm no fish expert, but don't catfish have very small scales?  They look like carp to me:  big scales, big eyes, dorsal fin well back toward the tail?

Look more like White Suckers they breed in the stream there, definitely not catfish as Brian said catfish have a more skin like exterior, sucker can get quite large

I think you're right.  I've seen them there before and the habitat/behavior fits better.
