A pair of Wrens have been visiting my backyard for the past week. I was convinced they were Carolina wrens but my ROM field guide suggests these are uncommon so I wonder if they are marsh wrens instead? The eye stripe is very prominent and the underparts an even cinnamon, the throat is white - all of which lead me to go with the carolina. Any comments?

Yes....not that common except seen more in winter, every winter I seem to see more of them. Rattray marsh always seems to have some of these the last few winters

Carolina Wren is far more likely to winter here. There has been a resident pair wintering just north of Old Mill off the Humber for a couple of years now.

And Carolina Wrens have become more common in these areas in recent years, they are gradually spreading northwards.
