Saw this fellow wandering around in a snow covered corn field (Common Merganser ? ?)

Then sat down for a rest before flying off 5 minutes later.

Not sure what this is - Horned Lark? If so where are the "horns"? - sorry images are a bit fuzzy.

yes, Horned lark....probably scare silly by the merganser :D  and didn't want to show his horns

Well the two fields were about 5 KM apart - one on the west side of the 400 and the other on the east side - so if there is anyone guilty of scaring it silly that would down to me!!!

Holland River and Holland Marsh Canal are the nearest (2KM) but I do not think they have open water - then Lake Simcoe (about 6 to 8 KM).

Maybe he just stopped to take a break before moving on.  It's strange to see him in the middle of a field... for me.
